Part LVI

The time of the end begins in the book of Revelation where it talks about the seals. There were seven seals. These were time periods starting from the time of the early church. Today we will look at the sixth seal.

Just before the second coming of Jesus (Revelation 6:12) John says, “I behold when He had opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun became black as sackcloth of hair and the moon became as blood and the stars fell to the earth as untimely figs in a mighty wind.”

In history, we find a big earthquake in Lisbon, Portugal in 1755. In 1770 there was a dark day starting at about 11am until about 4pm. There was a very unusual darkness in the eastern US in November 1833. There also was a very heavy falling of the stars in the eastern US. It extended into the mid-west and Canada. The earthquake also was a sign of a big upheaval at that time in the world.

The church of Rome had held absolute way among the countries of western Europe since 539AD. When the last opposers were put down, the church and state had been very demanding of the peasantry in France. This brought about a demand for change.

Napoleon had come to power and a revolution began change. All leadership was blamed for their problems. The king was executed on the guillotine.

Napoleon had visions of becoming the head of a unified Europe. He had just returned with his army from a swing through western Europe. He said that he had forgotten something so he sent one of his generals back to Rome to capture the Pope. He had the Pope brought to Paris and put in prison. This shook the church and fulfilled the prophecy in Revelation that predicted a “deadly wound” in 1798. Twelve hundred and sixty (1260) years after this incident the bishop of Rome had come into absolute power in 538, according to the prophecy.

Many people in Europe had fled the country prior to this time because of the persecution. Many had come to the new world, America. The prophet John (in Revelation 13:11) said, “I saw another beast come out of the earth. It had two horns like a lamb and it spake as a dragon.”

In the 7th chapter of Daniel, John saw four beasts come out of the sea. Later he says these beasts represented the four empires we know as Babylon, Persia, Greece and Rome. These all have come to an end but what about the sea they came out of? The Bible can interpret itself.

In Revelation 17:15 John said, “The waters which you saw are multitudes and nations and tongues.” So in Daniel these kingdoms come in an area that was well populated like seas of people.

The beast coming out of the earth. Where could that be. We need to look at the new world with its wide open spaces (America). The people here, were to a great extent, refugees from the persecutions in Europe. They followed many practices of the old world with each colony doing its own thing all under British rule. Then came the colonies revolt against British rule. The colonies won and America became a huge land without a government.

The fragmented colonies got together to form a central government. But in the prophecy John saw two lamb like horns. What were they? The decisions they made were no doubt under the guidance of God's spirit. When Benjamin Disraeli, Prime Minister of Great Britain, heard what had taken place in America he said, “The greatest thing ever devised by the mind of man...a state without a king and a church without a pope. Freedom of speech and of worship.”

All countries in the old world had a king and a state church which, to a great degree, dictated the freedom of the people. As the time of the end was nearing God wanted a new system where people could make up their own minds. To be free from the pressure of the law of the land.

What has happened in the US has spread over most of the world. Some forms of democracy and state churches have disappeared in most of the world. So the sixth seal, the beginning of the end time as the prophecy stated has brought about big changes.

The problem in the church of Rome where the deadly wound was inflicted would be healed. God's word and prophecy fulfills exactly so we can trust in what it says. “A new day began to dawn among the Christian churches.”

Jesus said, “Go ye into all the world. Preach and teach the gospel, the good news of Jesus' love and second coming and Heaven.” The churches now can send missionaries to different parts of the world.

The world, for about 100 years, was without a major war. God was holding in check this problem so the message of His word could travel without problems. The prophet Daniel said of the time of the end, “men would run to a fro and knowledge would be increased.

The use of steam was discovered and with this came the steamship and rail roads. This added much to the spreading of the gospel. As we have moved along we have seen an explosion in people moving around. This is all due to the increase in knowledge. Medical science and health care have made great strides but so has the invention and knowledge for the purposes of war and the science of killing people. We are now living in a difficult time in this world's history. I will explore this more as we move along.
