God's Strange Act Part XCVII

God's Secrets Revealed

Here we are, already past the middle of January, enjoying spring like weather. It is not so in other parts of the world. In Haiti, the earthquake, one of the world's worst disasters ever. Many have died in the destruction. On Christmas day a flight almost blew up when somebody with a bomb inside his body tried to blow up the plane. What next?

The prophet said there would be problems, I think we can agree with that? There are many problems in the world today. We have been looking at the final end when all the ones who chose not to obey God are outside the city. Last week we mentioned God's strange act.

In Revelation 20:9 while they were about the beautiful city it says that fire came down from God out of Heaven and devoured them. Does that sound like a fair God to destroy all with the same fire?

When I was a young boy in 1924 my parents moved up into northern Saskatchewan on to a homestead. The government had opened up the country for farming. A bridge had been built over the beaver river into the new country. It was bush country and our place had been burned with a bush fire years before so there were dead logs on the ground and new growth of poplar and willow. These all had to be cleared so it could be ploughed for gardens and fields. The young trees were from ½ to 3 inches thick. A fire was built with the dead logs then the brush was thrown into the fire and burned.

I enjoyed working with my older brother. He would cut the trees and I would take them to the fire and throw them in. I liked to watch the young leaves on the poplars as I threw them in. The leaves burned like gasoline. As they hit the fire there was a “whoosh” and all the leaves were burned off. The tiny stem turned red and within a second all of the spurs that the leaves were on burned then fell off. As the stems got bigger they took longer to burn and the main stem lasted much longer. The stump, the root of all evil (satan) would burn the longest.

When I grew up and began to study the Bible on my own, I came upon the real prophecies of some of these things. In the book of Malachi it says, “Behold the day cometh that shall burn as an oven and all the proud and those that do wickedly shall be stubble and I will not leave them root or branch.” In the book of Obadiah it talks of this and says that they shall be as though they had not been.

When I look at Revelation, God says that each will receive according to his work. I think of the burning of the brush. The leaves of the young, green poplar trees went up with a big “whoosh” so will the majority of the unrighteous. They will go up quickly as though they had not been. Then the big branches, the main stem and the roots will burn much longer but God in His justice and mercy will not burn people forever as Satan would have us believe. God says, “I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked.”

The prophet, Malachi concludes this prophecy by saying, “The wicked shall be ashes under your feet.”

Friend, when I look at the world today with it's injustice, greed, violence and continual evil and knowing the prophecies of the old and new testaments and the words of Jesus Himself, I am convinced that God will bring this whole thing to a conclusion shortly. He will get all the ashes He needs from the bug kill around here. He does not want our ashes. I invite you to take up a good book, the Good Book and find in it our friend named Jesus, Saviour and Lord of your life.

Come and hear Pastor Herman present his message of hope this Saturday, January 30th at 11am at 2190 Granite Avenue.
