God's Secrets Revealed

In Revelation 21 the prophet John saw in a vision the holy city, New Jerusalem, in all its beauty. The city came down from God out of Heaven with a great number of saved in it. In the old testament book of Zechariah it says, “When the city comes down and the feet of Jesus touches the place where the old temple was, the earth will open four ways.” A great plain will develop where the city sits down. Then the second resurrection will take place. In the first were all the saved who are in the city but in the second those are not saved.

John says, “satan is loosed out of his prison but now he is not alone with his angels but has all the wicked who have ever lived to work with. Just think of all the men of war and the array of leaders that are there and satan, the deceiver, telling them that they can take this beautiful city for it really belonged to him.

Then I think of a very sad picture, this beautiful city, built of glass brick, transparent and the resurrected ones can walk around the city and look into it. What are their feelings? They see the beauty inside but what about the people inside? They see them healthy and happy and they cannot get in for the gates are shut.

This will surely be punishment, just seeing what was for them. They had chosen the things of this world over it and now they see the results of their choice. They'll see friends and loved ones inside and it will bring many unhappy memories for they were not always nice to those who were following Jesus.

Then think of the anger when outside they meet those who led them into sin and others who told them that following God and His commandments was not that important. Those outside have come up in the same condition they went into the grave: diseased, sick, lame or whatever they had and they present a sad picture.

Why is this kind of picture given us in His word? The Bible tells us God is love. Jesus gave His life for us and the Bible says God has no pleasure in the death of the unrighteous. He has given us a picture of what He really wants for us and what our choice can give us. God wants us to get the real picture to see we don't have to be on the outside. There is plenty of room on the inside.

When Jesus left He said, “I go to prepare a place for you, a home, one that is especially made for you.”

While John in a vision sees this great number of people around the city he suddenly sees a great white throne .  Small and great stand before God and the books were opened. Here we see a loving God who is just and fair and will not punish the innocent but wants everyone to see His real character.

Just how is this going to work out? I don't know.  I really don't need to know.  God knows and that is all that matters and all that is important.

Whether everyone's life is played before them on a giant video screen, I don't know but the apostle Paul, in Philippians 2 says that at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow in Heaven and Earth and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.

Here we get a picture of everyone confessing that there is justice they have seen what they get is fair and just and they will see that they were not fit for Heaven where no sin will ever be. We don't have to be on the outside.

I would like to invite you to come to the Seventh-day Adventist Church on Saturday mornings at 11am to worship with us. If you don't have a Bible we will provide you with your own copy. I also offer you some Bible lessons where you could study and find for yourself the truth and eternal life where you will be on the inside of the city with Jesus.
